7 things to do to rethink your redundancy.

I am sorry to hear about the number of layoffs worldwide. As someone who's experienced this twice, I know it's not easy, but I believe something better is in sight.

Here are seven things I can suggest to set yourself up for success (whatever success means to you):

1. Take a moment to pause and reflect on your wins.

  • What have you learnt?

  • What three skills make you, you?

  • What is something you are proud of?

2. Consider what your next role looks like.

What are the three day-to-day activities you want to do?

  • What are your non-negotiables?

  • What are you not wanting to do?

3. Reach out to colleagues in the workplace and ask for references or testimonials,

which you can update on your Linkedin, CV, or portfolio. This helps you to stay relevant and provides reassurance.

4. Tap into your network.

Ask three people interested whom you have been following for a 15-minute virtual coffee to discuss their journey, role and insights into finding your next job. Top tip: have your questions online and tell them precisely what success looks like from the conversation.

5. Level up your skills.

6. Watch this TED TALK on FAILURE COMES BEFORE RESILIENCE

I delivered this talk after being let go from work for the 2nd time and know that you aren't alone.

Sonya Barlow invites us to see failure as a 'temporary disruptor' - a necessary step in the growth of resilience.

7. Be kind to yourself and take a break.

Often in these cases, being kind and taking time is the best thing you can do so that you don't rush, make decisions which don't align with your values and burn out trying to sign off your next thing.

  • Take yourself on a date,

  • Travel with intent,

  • Treat yourself and celebrate how far you have come.
